Examining in parallel the Models drawn by G.V. for his Giant posters and his Lithographic posters (excluding the ones made for Greek films), the primary material (the “documents”) imported by the film distributor along with the film copies, and the final work, i.e the Giant posters as they appear in the black and white photographs of the cinema façades, we can divide his Models into two categories:
Those that are influenced directly by the “documents” in terms of both theme and layout, e.g. VGM.17, VGM.45, VGM.134.
Those which are purely personal creations, bearing no marks of influence from the film “documents”, e.g. (VGM.116), VGM.131, VGM.102, VGM.56. The latter was certainly the case for almost all of his posters made for Greek films and for the great majority of those made for international films.
In his drawing of the Giant poster model for the 1945 film A SONG TO REMEMBER (VGM.8), shown at ATTIKON cinema with the Greek title «ΣΟΠΕΝ» (CHOPIN), G. Vakirtzis shows no influence from any of the film’s visual “documents”. On the other hand, the Lithographic poster (VLM.1) is partially influenced by the American original. Vakirtzis adds to it the figure of Chopin, to make it correspond better to the Greek title of the film.
