Découpés

The compositions of the Giant posters would often exceed the standard rectangular frame of the cinema façade (see p. 33) and the motifs spilled over, mainly to the surface of the two entrance columns or to the sides. The two-dimensional image of the façade was thus transformed into a painting that created the illusion of depth, preparing the audience for the film. By triggering the imagination, such découpés invited the passers-by into the magic of the dark cinema theatre…

The painters St. Almaliotis (Α), M. Panayotopoulos (Β), G. Kouzounis (C), G. Vakirtzis (D), N. Andreakos (Ε) created Giant posters with découpés, respectively for the cinemas ORFEFS (A,B), TITANIA (C), ATTIKON (D), KOTOPOULI (E).
